Job Summary: The Career Development Specialist is responsible for assisting consumers to obtain and maintain competitive, sustainable employment and to promote knowledge of Department goals and activities to employers and business community through presentations.
Required Skills, Abilities and Responsibilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent judgment, problem solving, organizational, and time management skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with individuals with disabilities, families, co-workers, staff, supervisors, funding sources, and other social service agency personnel;
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or other relevant computer software as these relate to job responsibilities.
- Under the direction of the supervisor, assessing the abilities and interests of prospective participants;
- Explaining to employers the relationship with the consumer; Developing a pool of employment positions that match a consumer’s skills and interests; Acting as an advocate on behalf of consumers to employers, supervisors, co-workers, and other interested parties;
- Providing follow-up services, re-training, and re-placement when needed;
- Investigating and coordinating transportation to and from the employment site and providing
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by immediate supervisor or Executive Director.
Education and Experience: Associates Required, Bachelors Preferred
Physical Requirements: Mobility and ability to bend and reach during an eight-hour day. Individual is able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds. Has the visual and auditory acuity sufficient to evaluate information and maintain accurate records. Fine motor skills and legible and accurate writing of reports, daily correspondence, and presentation either manually or orally.
