The Children’s Home of Reading seeks a Full Time Classroom Aide to assist teacher in planning and implementation of age appropriate lessons meeting the needs of individuals enrolled in the secondary program and to help create a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth, while establishing effective rapport with students and utilizing effective behavior management techniques. The Children’s Home of Reading offers a multi-disciplinary team approach, integrating counseling, education, recreation & life skills instruction. The Children’s Home of Reading supports and utilizes the Sanctuary Model of Care.

Education and Experience:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience in a classroom setting, or Associate Degree.
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students to promote learning.
- Effective in applying knowledge of educational theory to instructional programs, presenting information and responding to questions from group; and assisting in the implementation of lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs/abilities of students.
- Ability to express self clearly and concisely in oral and written communications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist teacher in evaluating pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records and paperwork, and assist in the preparation of progress reports.
- Assist in the maintenance of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere; utilize and implement behavior management, communication, conflict resolution techniques, progressive crisis intervention techniques, and perform Safe Crisis Management when required.
- Assist in the creation of functional and organized environment for learning, and in preparing bulletin boards and displays as required by the teacher.
- Assist in escorting students to and from bus as required, and in the coordination and implementation of bus trips as required by teacher.
- Assist teacher in daily preparations for the day, marking papers and keeping accurate records of students’ academic and behavioral performance.
Additional Requirements:
The candidate must pass a Criminal Record History Clearance, FBI and Child Abuse History Clearance, as well as possess a valid PA driver’s license and maintain a good driving record throughout employment. The candidate must pass a Physical & Drug Screening & possess the ability to attend and successfully complete all sponsored training.
